I was delighted to be given the opportunity this week to create an exterior colour scheme for a classic heritage-style home that was built in 1904. It was originally located in Murwillumbah, New South Wales but at some point, in time, it was divided into four sections and moved to Cudgera Creek onto a farming property where it was meticulously reassembled.
When creating the colour scheme, it was important to strike a careful balance between respecting tradition and incorporating the personal preferences of its current owners.
This home is nestled in a lush landscape and it whispers tales of yesteryears with its heritage flavour. It was a canvas where every colour would be a dialogue between history and modernity. It is graced with high ceilings, ornate pressed metal ceiling roses, timber floors, stained glass windows, fretwork and sweeping verandahs.
The owners plan to transform the property into an Airbnb and thus they opted for a contemporary colour palette to modernize the property. Taubman’s Brilliant White was selected to highlight the intricate timber balustrades and decorative fretwork combined with Colorbond Monument as a bold accent colour for gutters, fascias and balustrade handrails. To compliment this scheme, we selected Dulux Celtic Sky (light grey) for the timber cladded walls of the house and free-standing garage.
The result will be a harmonious blend of past and present. The colours will accentuate its traditional features whilst at the same time making a contemporary, elegant statement.
